It is officially springtime – a great time to clean and make repairs around the home. Premier Properties of Dublin has a helpful checklist of seven items to make sure your home is ready for spring.
1 – Repair any torn or damaged window screens.
In addition to being more aesthetically pleasing, repairing these screens will also help protect your home from unwelcome bugs that begin to resurface during the spring and summer months.
2 – Clean fallen leaves from your gutters.
This is a very important home maintenance step that is often overlooked. Taking care of this helps ensure your gutters will be able to do their job properly – draining rainwater away from your home. Also, many bugs – like ants – can be found in these leaves and debris, and you certainly don’t want these making their way into your home!
3 – Clean and reseal your deck.
After harsh winter weather, this is a must. Cleaning and resealing your deck will ensure you’ll be ready to enjoy the warmer weather in your outdoor living area with family and friends!
4 – Repair any damaged siding.
By fixing damaged siding now, you’ll help protect your home before the humidity skyrockets in the summer months.
5 – Inspect your roof for any damage.
Falling leaves and limbs from the autumn and winter months may have caused damaged to your roof that you’re not yet aware of. Inspecting your roof to make sure it’s ready for spring and summer before you notice a problem is a great way to save time and money in the future.
6 – Caulk around windows, where needed.
This will help keep out moisture and heat typically associated with this time of year. Your family (and power bill!) will thank you.
7 – Flush out your water heater.
This task will help remove any sediment and will also improve how your water heater functions. It’s recommended to do this periodically throughout the year, so adding it to your spring list is a great way to make sure it happens.
